Whether you need a water heaters replacement, setting up home plumbing in a new home, or have general questions regarding water heater installation; one place to start would be where to put it.
Believe it or not, there are some places that are better than others, and the many factors that you will face during placements. For example, the water heater can be a dangerous piece of equipment; despite its safety features. So your bedroom closet is not the place where you want to start.
Climate
If you’re setting up for a water heater replacement, you might think of having the new installation in the same place, however this is not always true. For example in colder climates it would be better indoors as it will provide extra heat. In hotter climates you might want to consider having it in your shed or garage to cut down on your AC use. If it was an older house, they may not have been thinking about economic efficiency when placing the original. So moving it from one place to another may save you money in the long run.
Input Type
Another factor is if it’s gas or electric. If it is gas it uses a vent to help cool down, usually using the air around it. So a place that does not require as much AC would be better, such as your garage or basement. If it is electric then it’s not as big of a deal.
Location of Faucets
The next thing you should think of is where exactly all your faucets are, especially in larger houses. When it comes to home plumbing and your water heater, you want it in a centralized location, so that way the heated water will be able to reach its destination without getting cool again.
Ease of Maintenance
You should also think about maintenance, so you want it to be easily accessible. If you’re having trouble with the water heater installation, you might have trouble getting it serviced. The anode rod is a common piece that needs replaced and has to be removed on occasion. It’s at the top so it’s best not to shove the water heater up to the rafters.
